What is IPL hair removal?
Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy is a pain-free and non-invasive treatment to remove unwanted dark hair.
At Astonish, we use the Eclipse 1200 Pro IPL machine designed and supported right here in New Zealand. This super hair removal machine uses laser light technology to get rid of unwanted hair, including hairs that are hard to remove with other methods. It is also easier on the skin and a lot more pleasant than waxing, plucking and other hair removal products.
The machine works best on light skin with dark hairs, but it is also successful at removing fine hairs from dark skin.
The beautician operating the IPL machine will sweep it over the area being treated, and the in-built cooling system will prevent any burns. The whole thing is almost completely pain-free.
With IPL, you will usually need fewer treatments than with other permanent hair removal methods. Depending on how your hairs grow, you may need eight to 10 treatments, about three to four weeks apart.
Before your treatment
Please let us know before your treatment if you are taking Ro-accutane, Gold Therapy, or any other medication that makes you more sensitive to light and the sun.
Don’t pluck or wax your hairs for six weeks before treatment. Shaving is OK.
Avoid spending too much time in the sun or getting sunburnt for a week before your treatment. Also avoid tanning salons.
The day before your appointment, shave the area to be treated.
After your treatment
You may experience a slight reddening and swelling, like a mild sunburn. This should go away in less than 24 hours. The hairs should fall out one to five weeks after treatment.
You can shave your hairs at any time, but do not wax or pluck them. Keep the area clean, wash it gently with warm water and avoid using any irritating products, especially on the face.
Wear high-protection sunscreen and avoid overexposure to the sun for at least a week after treatment.
If you have any side effects, please let us know as soon as possible.
